Are you passionate about women’s health and wellness? Do you like to connect with others to share your fitness knowledge? Do you enjoy inspiring others to move their bodies and in a way that’s fun and effective?
If this is you, then we’d love to have you join our team of instructors!
Group Fitness Instructor
We’re looking for instructors that can lead group fitness sessions specifically for people who have just had babies. At Fitmama Strong, we not only offer fitness classes, but we pride ourselves on helping women create their mamma community during their childbearing years. Of course, while they’re meeting their new mamma friends, they’re also working hard and moving their bodies so that they can build strength, improve their balance, increase their energy and sleep well. We encourage our members to establish healthy habits that will continue to serve them in the long term as their families grow and change.
What you’ll do:
lead group fitness classes that take place either/or in person and online (live from our “virtual studio”)
motivate class members to challenge themselves each time they come to a class
prepare class plans that include strength training, flexibility and cardio within a full body workout, as well as a warm up and cool down period
create plans that use a variety of workout types to ensure classes are fun but also challenging and exciting
connect with members by asking them questions, using their name and praising their progress
adapt to different levels of fitness by offering exercise modifications for higher or lower intensity and higher or lower impact
be aware of proper form and help members with small corrections that will keep them injury free in the longer term, primarily by cueing with words
create a space (either in person or virtually) where our members feel safe
record attendance at each class
Who you are:
As one of our group fitness instructors, you’ll be great at connecting with our members, whether it’s welcoming them to their first class, asking them about their older child or chatting about how they slept the night before, all while still maintaining a professional and positive attitude. Our goal is to make such an impression that our members continue to attend FITMOM classes once they’ve returned to work or that they continue through the life cycle of our classes for each of their subsequent pregnancies, because they felt seen and heard in our classes.
What we expect:
The population that we service requires us to not only hold a fitness certification from a nationally recognized association, but also requires us to have an advanced knowledge of how bodies change during pregnancy and in the postpartum period. Additional training in postnatal fitness is also necessary for servicing our population. Having completed a postnatal certification is considered an asset, but this is an area of expertise that we can teach you, if you’re a great fit for our business. If teaching our prenatal classes, additional training in prenatal fitness or prenatal yoga is required.
We pride ourselves on being able to offer resources to our members when asked, however, we don’t have all of the answers. There’s never any shame in saying you don’t know an answer, but you’ll find out. Encouraging members to ask questions during and after classes helps us better understand how to service them in the future. These conversations are often the way we make a lasting impression on our members and leads to high quality member referrals in the future.
Once an instructor is comfortable with the technical or location set up, we do not micromanage. We trust that our instructors will treat their time with our members as if it was their own business. We place a high value on integrity and respect for both our team and our members.
Welcoming our members is a huge part of our class experience, both online and in person, so arriving before the class starts is something that is very important. Ensuring that our space is clean and tidy after a class (for instance ensuring that all equipment is properly put away after an indoor class, or that we didn’t leave any garbage at an outdoor class) is crucial as we rent the spaces that we occupy and we want to leave a good impression. Taking attendance at each class not only ensures that our members’ passes are credited correctly but it also helps with putting a name and face together, allowing us to more easily remember the people in our classes.
If you think that you’d be a great fit to work with us, please apply! You’ll need to include your resume and a cover letter that tells us why you are interested in working with us and why you think you’d be a great fit. We can’t wait to hear from you!
